Potton Helps to Bring School Project to Life

Self Build organisation Potton played host to 70 children from Elsworth C.E. (A) Primary School recently to help bring their latest school topic of “Houses and Homes” to life.

    • Hard hats and high-visibility vests donated to school
    • Inspiring the next generation of house builders

School Collage 1Children from Elsworth C.E. (A) Primary School have a fun day at Potton’s Self Build Show Home Centre to help with their ‘Houses and Homes’ topic.

The children aged four, five, six, and seven visited Potton’s Self Build Show Centre in Mill Lane, St Neots for an activity day which gave them an exciting insight into the world of construction and provided an opportunity to learn how their homes are created.

After a short introduction from Potton’s Self Build Director Paul Newman, where the children learnt about the importance of health and safety, each child was issued with an extra small hard hat and high visibility vest, which Potton has subsequently donated to the school.

The  children then went on to see demonstrations in construction techniques, had guided tours around the self-build show homes, built model houses from Lego and put their imaginations to work to sketch Potton homes -  12 of which will be chosen to create Potton’s 2016 Self Build calendar.

Paul Newman, Potton, commented: “We were delighted to welcome the children and staff from Elsworth Primary School and were happy to spend our day bringing their school topic to life.  Our self build show centre is a fabulous resource - not just for our organisation, self-builders and those within the timber construction sector, but also for our wider community too”

“Although it's a cliché, these children are the next generation of house builders and so by giving them a tangible insight into building a home, we’ve hopefully inspired one or two of them for the future.  More importantly the children had a fun filled day of learning… and so did we!”

Sarah Moore, Head Teacher at Elsworth Primary School, who visited Potton with the children, emphasised the importance of valuable first hand experiences to support children’s learning. She thanked all the Potton Staff involved in the day for making it such a wonderful visit.
