From Self Build to Totally Customisable Turnkey Homes

Founded in 1964, Potton started as a family business built on providing quality craftsmanship and good customer care. In 2025 Potton was acquired by Home@ix and began a transition to new technology as a totally customisable turnkey house builder. Over the years, Potton has remained dedicated to providing our customers with bespoke homes based on their aspirational vision: that will continue as we move from enabling self-build to providing totally customisable turnkey homes.

Company Founded

1964

Potton was founded in 1964 by Peter Hutchinson as Potton Timber Engineering Company. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Potton supply tens of thousands of timber frame houses to local government.

Potton's First Self Build

1981

Potton introduce their first self build design - a Tudor-style home with exposed posts and beams, and inglenook fireplace, still hugely popular today. Potton present a self build home at the Ideal Homes Show in 1984, helping grow the popularity of self build.

UK's First Show Centre

1992

Potton open the UK's first Self Build Show Centre and free self build seminars are launched. The three new show homes offer unprecedented access to complete builds, with guided tours from our experts.

Architectural Service

1996

Full architectural service introduced, covering design, planning and building regulations. Launch of cottage-style homes appealing to both self builders and developers.

Project Management

2003

Introduction of ‘Potton-approved’ project managers and builders to provide self builders with yet more confidence. Potton awarded the UK Timber Frame Association’s own Q Mark.

Potton Bought by Kingpsan

2006

Potton acquired by Kingspan Group Plc, opening up a whole new range of high performance building fabric and insulated panel systems.

Potton Lighthouse

2007

Potton use Kingspan technologies to build the first net zero carbon show home in the UK, a milestone for sustainable construction. Code Assessment service launched to help customers navigate the government’s Code for Sustainable Homes.
