The annual Build It Awards celebrates self build and renovation, including completed projects, services and suppliers. The awards bring together architects, manufacturers and key industry figures in recognition of innovation and excellence in the custom and self build home sector.

For the 2018 Awards, Potton has been shortlisted in the following categories:

Best self build architect or designer

Vicky Corbett, Potton for the Gunn's boldly bespoke build

Potton's in-house Architect, Vicky Corbett is a young designer who, after designing homes for the past 10 years, and a huge amount of hard work, qualified as an Architect in 2017. Having previously had her work featured on Grand Designs, Vicky has a natural flare for contemporary architecture and every one of her designs delivers a true wow-factor to the client.

Best timber frame home

Potton for 'Monksilver'

Tom McPhail and Helen Burgess built a new, contemporary style dwelling in place of a run-down bungalow which had previously been extended badly and was in need of complete replacement. A seemingly modest dwelling from the road side is somewhat deceptive as the rear elevation has a real wow factor with its apex feature and extended overhang detailing.

‘Being shortlisted for Best Timber Frame Home in this year’s Build It Awards is very exciting! We’re just pleased that the house has been recognised in such a competitive high quality field!’

Best self build under £250k

Potton for the Kingston home

Young couple, Emily and Paul Kingston have built a 139m2 home within the picturesque countryside of Devon. The total build cost of this new family home was just £220,000 and although slightly exceeding the average cost per sq metre (£1582/m2), this project has allowed a young couple to get onto the property ladder and achieved £100,000 of equity.

The modest exterior of this countryside abode is deceiving and large open-spaces await you inside. This spacious yet homely and comfortable house has made best use of a small budget, placing this new build at the more affordable end of the self-build cost spectrum.

New home captures the spirit of self build: Dennis & Maureen Stephens

Good research lays at the heart of Dennis and Maureen Stephens’ impressive self build. The couple gained consent on a plot of farmland when they realised the area’s Local Plan was being redrafted – opening the door to a potential project.

Visiting Build It Live and other shows led them to investigate the package home route, and they soon appointed Potton to design and deliver the project up to weathertight stage; a canny option for first-timers.
