Architectual Design, Planning & Building Regs, Building Structure, Potton Package
For Clive and Maureen Keevil, the Potton seed was sown earlier on. They became acquainted, through their bed and breakfast business, with some of Potton’s erection team who were working nearby on a neighbour's self build.
This intrigued the Keevils as they were impressed by the efficiency of the build and the answers the team gave to their self-build questions.
When it came to building their own home, though they shopped around, they kept coming back to Potton. This was largely thanks to the comprehensive design and planning service Potton offers. It means that self builders have one point of contact from start to finish and there aren't any additional, expensive services like architects that need to be brought in.
The couple's personal Potton designer set to work discussing their ideas and came up with a rustic, wooden-clad barn that makes use of local resource materials and fits the agricultural aesthetic. It would also contain a future-proofed, modern interior with plenty of light, vaulted areas and exceptional use of space.
The end result is simply spectacular. The wooden cladding echoes the traditional rural look, in keeping with the surrounding area whilst looking distinctly unique. It's peppered with cleverly placed windows and a grand roof with local materials tiling its span.
The home appears to emerge from the ground as local doulting stone is cleverly used to border the lower portion of the property.
Inside are all the trappings of a stately country home with the cosy comfort of farm living. Flagstone tiling, underfloor heating, clean and crisp walls and a wood burning stove create the exact atmosphere for a couple wanting to retain practical farmhouse function whilst adjusting to the more relaxed lifestyle of later life.

This home resembles a quintessentially English home, with light brickwork and elegantly dark roof tiles. As you travel around the property though, you realise that Potton has achieved something quite clever for the Hemingways.
Brian and Loveday Ellis watched us build our Wickhambrook show home - they loved the process so much, they wanted their self-build to be inspired by Wickhambrook.
