At Potton, we know that some people just have to see it, touch it, and walk around it before they truly understand the value of a Potton self build. This is precisely why we have five self-build show homes for budding self builders to explore and derive inspiration from.

This is exactly what happened with Brian and Loveday Ellis when they watched us build our “Wickhambrook” show home. They loved the process so much, they wanted their self build to be inspired by Wickhambrook.

Following further visits (including a visit to our factory) the couple fell in love with the Potton way and committed to their own self-build project with Potton. Our designer Sean was able to design a mirror image of our show home, with some layout customisation and an increase in overall size. Planning permission was swiftly passed (even with the 45% size increase) and work began.

Like so many of our customers, the Ellises remember that it was so exciting to watch the timber frame being erected. This process often forms the happiest memories of a self builder's journey as they are able to see their dreams spring to life from the designs in a very short space of time.

The Ellises also took advantage of our endless customisations, regularly discovering they could tweak elements of the build. An example of this flexibility unique to Potton is when Brian discovered a recurring feature in the local aesthetic, noticing that a lot of houses were built using a mixture of flint and brick. Our designer listened to this, saw some of Brian's photographs of local houses, and incorporated it as a dominant feature.
