Sunfold have installed their energy efficient windows at our new barn project

Windows and Sliding Folding Doors

Anyone who has visited Homebuilding and Renovating Shows or the Self Build and Renovation Centre in Swindon would not have failed to notice the name of Sunfold Systems. The brand has become synonymous with self- builders looking for high quality joinery products both externally and internally. They have been in business for over 21 years and were, just like Potton, early pioneers of the self- build exhibition circuit. Their products and service are second to none and with an eye to the future the technical advancements made over the years have been remarkable.

Having worked with Sunfold on a number of small projects we were delighted when they agreed to be involved in our latest show barn venture. It would provide them with an opportunity to show their products to a very discerning Potton audience, and gave us the opportunity to showcase the barn with a low maintenance, high performance window that would also be just perfect visually for this fusion of “old and new”

For the windows we chose from their newly launched 50:50 composite window range, which can achieve extremely low U-Values, something that with rising running costs and increasing requirements from a building regulation point of view is now so very important to home owners and self –builders alike.

The windows consist of a 50% aluminium external cladding which can be supplied pre-finished to any RAL colour – in our case this will be a Grey to off-set the traditional barn looking exterior. The internal 50% will be a high quality Pine timber that we have had factory stained in an Oak finish to match other items that will be featured within the house.

Key features of these windows:-

  • · U-values of 1.4 W/m2K with standard double glazing
  • · U-values down to 1.1 W/m2K with triple glazing
  • · Standard frame thickness 100mm (50% aluminium & 50% timber)
  • · True composite 50:50 gives maximum strength & durability
  • · Bespoke manufacture to exact customer specifications
  • · Standard 28mm double glazed comprises two panes of 4mm clear toughened glass, low-E & argon gas filled 20mm cavity
  • · Mechanisms coated to protect against weathering
  • · Opening configurations include top hung, top hung projecting, top hung fully reversible, side hung, side hung projecting, side hung fully reversible, bottom hung, side hung, tilt turn. Fully reversible configurations allow for easy cleaning
  • · Standard colours & finishes as well as aluminium powder coating to any RAL colour
  • · Timber available in pine or oak and a range of finishes
  • · Tested to BS 7950 & PAS 24

Special offer from Sunfold: 5% discount until the end of Jan 2012

With natural light being one of the most important aspects of this new barn design we also opted to incorporate two sets of folding sliding doors finished to almost the same specification as the windows. These will be utilised in the lounge and the kitchen/dining area and will provide not only a stunning feature in each of these areas, but easy access out to what will eventually become a patio/ outside dining or sitting area. Once closed, these doors will give the feel of bringing the garden landscape into each room.
